Understanding your NDIS plan

A plain-language walk through the three budget types, what each one can pay for, and the questions worth asking at your next plan review.

The plan is three budgets, not one pot of money, and most of the confusion people bring to us is about which budget pays for what.

This guide walks through each one. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

Core supports

The most flexible of the three. Day-to-day assistance, consumables, transport and community participation.

Capacity building

Skill building with a goal attached. Less flexible than core: the money is allocated against the goal it was approved for.

Capital supports

Equipment, home modifications and assistive technology. The least flexible, and usually quoted.
